‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ movie review

I was really not expecting to like “Remarkably Bright Creatures” that much, but the new Netflix movie had me ugly crying by the end.

The film follows a widow who finds joy again when she forms unlikely bonds with a giant Pacific octopus and a wayward young man who comes to town in search of family.

What I liked best about this film was how the story slowly unraveled until it came to a wonderfully emotional conclusion. I had never read the book and I’m happy I didn’t because it made the ending even more impactful.

I also really enjoyed the performances from Sally Field and Lewis Pullman. The way their characters slowly formed a bond was really touching to watch.

One thing I didn’t like about the movie was the portrayal of the love interests. They both kind of seemed like after thoughts and could have been developed more or cut all together.

I’d also say it was hard for me to suspend my belief with the octopus. I know they’re intelligent, but it was a little silly at times.

With that said, I thought this movie was really cute and a good tearjerker, so I’d definitely recommend you watch it.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
