‘Toy Story 5’ movie review

Written by:

I loved that Jessie was giving main character energy in “Toy Story 5.” It’s about time she was given her moment to shine with Woody and Buzz taking a backseat this time.

The synopsis

This new “Toy Story” film follows the familiar group of toys as they adapt to new technology being introduced to their kid, including a tablet named Lilypad.

The gag

What I liked best about the movie was the scenes where the toys were “playing” different roles with their kids. I loved that they used a different kind of animation to differentiate them as well.

I also liked that the movie touched on the downfalls of introducing technology into our lives and encouraged kids to use their imaginations away from screens.

And don’t get me started on the subplot about Jessie and her former owner. These films always find a way to make me tear up.

The drag

The thing I liked least about the movie was the interstitials with the group of Buzz Lightyear toys. I don’t think it was necessary to keep cutting back to them since they weren’t involved that much in the main story.

Another thing I didn’t love was that the movie kind of leaned into the old man tropes when it came to Woody. He’s a major part of the franchise, but they mainly just made jokes about him being old, fat and bald.

The verdict

With all that said, I really enjoyed the mix of jokes and heartfelt moments, so I highly recommend watching “Toy Story 5.”
