‘The Housemaid’ movie review

Written by:

I really think “The Housemaid” could have been a decent movie if Sydney Sweeney was replaced with another actress, like Margaret Qualley or Anya Taylor-Joy.

“The Housemaid” follows a young woman who lands a job with a wealthy family and gets pulled into a game of secrets and power with twists at every turn.

I’d say the highlight of the movie for me was Amanda Seyfried. She definitely understood the assignment the most and played into the campiness of the film.

I also liked that the story kept me on my toes. There were enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end.

And the movie was pretty funny at times, but I did find myself laughing at the dialogue. There were some truly atrocious lines uttered, especially by the main character.

With Sydney Sweenie’s recent controversies aside, it really seemed like she was phoning in her performance for most of this movie. Her line delivery was awful, and I never really rooted for her character.

And like most movies nowadays, I think the film could have been much shorter. It was over two hours long and could have easily been an hour and half.

With all that said, if you’re looking for something soapy to watch, “The Housemaid” might be worth streaming at home once it’s available. Otherwise, I think it’s fine if you skip it.
