As someone who hasn’t read the book, I thoroughly enjoyed the new movie “People We Meet on Vacation” and I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the better rom-coms that Netflix has released in recent years.
“People We Meet On Vacation” follows a free-spirited woman and a by-the-book man who wonder if they could be a perfect romantic match after years of vacationing together.
First, I’ll say that the premise wasn’t what I was expecting. Based on the title, I thought it was going to be about a couple who meets on a vacation, so that threw me for a bit of a loop.
Another small complaint that I had was that I didn’t love how the movie jumped between time periods. They used title cards to explain things, but that took some getting used to.
The romantic scenes were also a little tame and I think they could have spiced those up a bit more.
Lastly, a big point of contention in the movie is about whether the woman should leave her dream job as a travel writer in New York to move back to the Midwest, but I just kept thinking that she could probably work remotely because I assume most people in that job do that anyway.
Aside from those things, the movie was pretty cute overall. The two lead actors were super charming, especially the woman – Emily Bader – who I haven’t seen in anything before. Her comedic timing was spot on and I’d love to see her in more comedies like this.
With all that said, I’d recommend adding this movie to your watchlist and streaming it when you get the chance. It might make for a cute date night at home.
