Here are my top five spoiler-free takeaways from Netflix’s new Knives Out movie!
“Wake Up Dead Man” is the third film in the Knives Out franchise, which follows a detective played by Daniel Craig as he solves various mysteries. This time, he teams up with a young priest to investigate a crime at an upstate New York church with a dark history.
1. My first big takeaway is that this film was a lot better than the second one, “Glass Onion,” but not quite as good as the first movie. It’s a great blend of comedy and drama.
2. I think the mystery in this film was laid out really well. It kept me guessing all the way until the end, which is a good sign for this type of movie.
3. The one problem I did have with the plot is that it took a while to get to the actual murder. I wish it was introduced earlier instead of spending so much time introducing the characters, some of whom hardly affected the story.
4. Religion plays a big part in this film and there are multiple monologues about it. The filmmakers were probably trying to incorporate religious themes into the story, but I didn’t think they were very effective and they actually kind of weighed down the movie for me.
5. I thought the cast was fabulous, especially Glenn Close. I see now why she’s been getting Oscar buzz for her role. And while the other actors were also good, I wish some of them had a little bit more to do in the film.
With all that said, I thought “Wake Up Dead Man” was pretty great, so I gave it 8/10 stars. It’s on Netflix now and would be a good movie that you could watch with your family over the holidays.
