I think more people should be talking about the new film “100 Nights of Hero” because it really exceeded my expectations, both visually and thematically. If you’re new to Pop Commentary, I review movies and TV shows to help you decide what’s worth watching.
As for “100 Nights of Hero,” it tells the story of how a charming houseguest arrives at a remote castle and disrupts the delicate dynamic between a neglectful husband, his wife and their devoted maid named Hero.
The film was unlike any I’ve seen before and I kept thinking it seemed more like a story you’d find in a book rather than a movie. And turns out, it was based on a graphic novel, which explains how the filmmakers were able to create a truly unique world in such a short amount of time. I particularly liked their fantastical outfits and how they integrated a strange religion about birds into the story.
The cast was also fantastic. It included Nicholas Galitzine, Emma Corrin, Maika Monroe, and even Charli XCX, who did a fantastic job. I loved seeing her on the big screen.
Also, a big theme of the movie was how the power of storytelling is important to society and that really struck a chord with me as someone who loves movies, TV and books.
As for my critiques, I will say that I found the deal that was struck between the houseguest and the husband at the beginning of the movie to be a bit confusing. I won’t spoil what it was, but I just think it could have been explained better.
And throughout the film, they counted the number of days on the screen with tally marks and I found that a little hard to keep up with at times.
Other than those things, I liked this movie more than I expected to and would suggest it to anyone who likes a quirky romance.
