Hear me out: I didn’t hate “Another Simple Favor.” Was it good? No. Was it campy and fun? Kinda!
The movie is a sequel to 2018’s “A Simple Favor,” which centered around a mommy vlogger, played by Anna Kendrick, who sought to uncover the truth behind the sudden disappearance of her best friend, played by Blake Lively.
The two friends reunite in the sequel for Blake Lively’s character’s wedding, which (of course) is interrupted by murder and betrayal.
I won’t give anything else away, but there are a lot of twists and turns, most of which are so far-fetched that the movie veers off into camp territory.
Aside from the messy plot, my main issue with the film is that the audience is expected to remember a lot of details from the first movie. I didn’t, and it definitely made parts of the story harder to follow.
The acting from Blake Lively also wasn’t great and her character had some pretty disturbing scenes with a family member, which was just weird.
My favorite part of the film was Anna Kendrick’s performance. I found her really charming. She nailed the quippy dialogue and gave the movie some much-needed energy.
I can’t say that I recommend this movie, but if you have Amazon Prime and you like Anna Kendrick, you might have a good time watching it with some wine.
I gave “Another Simple Favor” 5 out of 10 stars. If you’ve already seen the movie, let me know what you thought in the comments and subscribe to Pop Commentary for more reviews like this!
