‘Black Mirror’ season 7 episodes ranked (spoiler-free)

Here’s my ranking of the “Black Mirror” season seven episodes that hit Netflix in April 2025.

6. My least favorite new episode was episode four, titled “Plaything.” It’s about a murder suspect who is linked in an unusual video game that hosts a society of digital lifeforms. Other than the cute video game characters, this one just didn’t do it for me.

5. Next up is episode two, called “Bête Noire.” It’s about a young woman who is unnerved when an old acquaintance joins the company she works at, especially because there’s something odd about her that only she can see. The main issue I had with this episode is that the technology involved didn’t seem realistic. It felt more like magic.

4. My fourth favorite was episode three, called “Hotel Reverie,” where Issa Rae plays an A-list actor who stars in a high-tech remake of a classic film. She’s sent into another dimension and has to stick to the script if she wants to make it home. This one was pretty good, but Issa kind of took me out of it. It seems like she kind of just plays herself.

3. Next is episode six, called “USS Callister: Into Infinity.” It’s a follow-up to a previous episode, where the crew of a spaceship is stranded in an infinite virtual universe. I was looking forward to this episode the most because I loved the first one. I liked it, but I don’t think it measured up to the original.

2. My second favorite was episode five, titled “Eulogy.” Paul Giamatti plays an isolated man who is introduced to a system that allows users to step inside old photos, which stirs up powerful emotions. I loved this episode. I thought the acting was fantastic, the technology was interesting, and the story was really touching.

1. Lastly, my favorite was episode one, called “Common People.” It’s about a husband who signs his wife up for a high-tech system to save her life, but at a cost. This one was really funny and it tugs at the heartstrings. Chris O’Dowd and Rashida Jones were excellent in it.
