‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’ movie review

The new movie “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” is a surprisingly good sequel that expands upon the world of the first film with a good mix of comedy and horror.

The synopsis

In this new film, the main character barely has a chance to recoup from her first brush with death before being thrown into a new nightmarish game. This time, she and her sister have to survive as four rival families hunt them down so they can claim the high seat of the satanic council that controls the world.

The gag

What I liked best about the movie was that it leaned into the absurdist humor of the original film. I laughed out loud nearly every time someone literally exploded or died in other wild ways.

I also thought Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, and Shawn Hatosy from “The Pitt” were great additions to the cast. They played so well off each other and totally understood what kind of movie they were in.

The drag

My biggest complaint about the film was that the rules of the satanic cult were a little convoluted and convenient at times. For example, there were plenty of chances where it seemed like any one of the members could have taken out the main character, but that would have just ended the movie prematurely.

And for as much as I liked the addition of the sister, the relationship between her and the main character was a little corny. Their relationship anchored the movie, but some of their dialogue was pretty unconvincing and cliche.

The verdict

At the end of the day though, I still really enjoyed this movie. I’d recommend it if you like films that blend comedy with horror.
