‘F1’ movie review

“F1” is a really entertaining movie, packed with incredible racing scenes, but it’s pretty void of emotion, so much so that I really didn’t care who won in the end.

The film stars Brad Pitt as a race car driver who returns to Formula 1 30 years after an accident nearly ended his career. He joins a struggling team alongside a hotshot rookie who’s trying to make a name for himself. The two end up butting heads and have to figure out how to work together to save the team.

It’s kind of giving “Ford v Ferrari” but set in the present day and not autobiographical. I personally liked “Ford v Ferrari” better though, just because I thought it had more heart to it.

I really did have a good time watching this movie, though. I thought the plot was pretty straight forward and easy to understand, even as someone who doesn’t follow racing.

Brad Pitt was the main draw for me and he didn’t disappoint. He’s aging like a fine wine.

The soundtrack was also one of the highlights. It has tons of original pop songs from big artists like Doja Cat and Tate McRae.

My biggest critique of the film is that it followed the cookie cutter formula for a sports movie, but it somehow didn’t make me feel much at all.

The romance in the film also didn’t seem very earned. I would have liked it if there was more time spent developing that

And, I found it hard to root for the young driver on the team. He didn’t have very many redeeming qualities, so why should I care if he wins or not? His mom was a queen though.

Plus, like a lot of movies nowadays, it could have been a lot shorter. It’s 2.5 hours and could have easily been cut down a little.

All in all, it’s a good summer blockbuster and I’d recommend it to those looking for something mind numbing and fun. Maybe not to those looking for something truly meaningful.
