‘The Phoenician Scheme’ movie review

The plot of “The Phoenician Scheme” was a little all over the place, but it was spectacular to look at it, just like all of Wes Anderson’s other films.

The movie follows a wealthy businessman and his daughter, who is a nun, as they embark on a new enterprise and become the target of scheming tycoons and assassins.

The film stars Benicio del Toro as the businessman, Mia Threapleton as his daughter, and Michael Cera as their tutor. And like any other Wes Anderson film, it’s packed with cameos from well-known actors like Tom Hanks and Scarlett Johansson.

I really didn’t have any problems with the acting. The quippy dialogue was delivered in a signature deadpan way and the standout for me was actually Michael Cera. I thought his character was the funniest.

Although the acting and art direction were great, I found myself pretty bored throughout the movie and it was hard to follow at times.

I also think I prefer Wes Anderson films that are a little more lighthearted, like “Moonrise Kingdom” or “Fantastic Mr. Fox.” This movie is dourer, like “The French Dispatch” or “Asteroid City,” which I didn’t like as much.

I gave the movie 6 out of 10 stars. Overall, I’d say you should see it if you’re a fan of Wes Anderson because it’s packed with his signature style. Otherwise, it might be a little out there for the general public.
